Washing your nylon spandex fabric (garment) correctly is crucial to preserving their quality and longevity:
- Separate Colors: Like with any clothing, separate your colors to prevent color bleeding. Wash dark and light colors separately, especially for the first few washes.
- Use a Gentle Cycle: Opt for a gentle or delicate cycle on your washing machine. The gentle cycle reduces the risk of excessive stretching and damage to the fabric.
- Use Cold Water: Cold water is the safest option for nylon spandex. It helps maintain the fabric's elasticity and prevents potential damage from hot water.
- Mild Detergent: Use a mild detergent designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners, as they can weaken the spandex fibers.
- Air Dry When Possible: The best way to dry nylon spandex is to air dry it. Lay your garments flat on a clean towel, reshaping them to their original form if needed. Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric, as this can damage the spandex fibers.
- Low Heat in Dryer: If you must use a dryer, choose the lowest heat setting (often labeled as "delicate" or "low"). High heat can weaken spandex over time. Use dryer balls or clean tennis balls to prevent tangling and minimize wrinkles.
- Shorter Dry Times: Keep drying times short to prevent overexposure to heat. Check the garments regularly, and remove them as soon as they are dry.
